My name is Phoebus Apollo, I am a Pittsburgh, PA based author, web designer, and once-passed bill writer. I spent 3 years working in the Portland, OR area for Circuit City and 4 years before that working at Regal Cinemas in downtown Portland, many of you may know me from those places. Others may know me from my work with Perverted Justice and their websites @ pjfi.org. My hometown is Greenville, MI where most of my family is located.

Western philosophy is important to me as a foundation for knowledge, as all things start with the Descartes maxim of "I think therefore I am". I am an atheist and believe that there is no god or greater power, however I retain an interest in religious discussion. I believe strongly in human liberty and libertarianism, although I've separated from the Libertarian Party in the last few years. I am a strict supporter of the Constitution. I do not believe being worldly is the same as being wise, and believe the United States is a good place to live compared to most others.

My name, which is my legal name, is derived from the Greek god Apollo. The "Phoebus Apollo" of ancient Greek/Roman myth is not the god of the sun, despite confusions in popular myth that might designate him as such, the Greek god of the sun was the titan Helios. Phoebus was the god of prophecy and the builder of the Oracle, which still exists on Mount Parnassus in Delphi today, in ruins (pictured below).

When I first came online, I looked immediately for a name that would stick, knowing the importance of a good pseudonym. I had an old Greek mythology book from high school, one I never wound up returning, so I panned through the front chapters describing the gods for a suitable nickname. Apollo represented a lot of ancient intellectual culture, symbolizing values like honesty, cunning, and wisdom. Good values to base a life and identity around. I decided to change my name to it after I wrote my first book - The Thomas Jefferson Blog - having used it as my pen name.

My desire in life was initially to leave the impression on others that I'm a decent person who deserves anything good he manages to have come to him. I can't say that is the case much anymore, as time passes I find it more difficult to pin down any one motive for living. What I will say is that once we look forward we can't look back, and I hope eventually to contribute some manner of valuable insight to those looking for it, not that there are many who are.

If you know me it's likely as an acquaintance, I don't have a lot of people I consider friends, but I never considered being acquainted a bad thing. I enjoy the time I spend with most of the people I am acquainted with and would like to keep in touch. All my contact details are on the right side of my website on every page... say hi!

My website is mainly to keep all my ideas in one place, so people who visit can get a picture of what I'm about. I'm constantly attempting to elucidate and condense my ideas into more coherent structures for myself to digest here, and I hope someone benefits from sharing the results of that process, at least down the line. Really, our ideas are the most important parts of who we are. I try to make my life an open book for anyone interested in reading.
